Inspired by the smooth sounds of Sade, the funk of Marcus Miller and Stanley Clarke, and the fusion of Herbie Hancock this album captures Gemini Soul performing their eclectic blend of jazz/funk fusion live, known as "Cyber Jazz."
After releasing ‘Liquid Soul’ which gave fans the ultimate experience in a new direction in jazz...Cyber Jazz, Gemini Soul hit the road to promote the album. This gave birth to ‘Live : The Liquid Soul Tour’ album.

This is not your typical jazz; this is Cyber Jazz! ‘Live : The Liquid Soul Tour’ captures Gemini Soul over several shows doing what they do best - performing live. Ajamu Akinyele's bass playing is in the style of Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller and Meshell Ndegeocello - a sight to be seen live. Jon O'Bergh's keyboard stylings capture the elements of 70's funk, reminiscent of Herbie Hancock. As a new member of the band, Andrew Foster's percussion adds a satin groove, keeping the music smooth and sexy.

‘Live : The Liquid Soul Tour’ features music from their early 2007 ‘Liquid Soul’ release, including Peggy Lee's "Fever" and Sade's "Hang On To Your Love." Additionally, this album includes a jazz/funk version of Lizz Wright's "Goodbye." Also, the album includes a new song featured only during live performances “Ancestor’s Dub.” And, you can hear Gemini Soul bring the audience to their feet on the songs “Pandora's Boxx (Remix)" and the extended live version of “Supernova (Remix)”. This album is funky, jazzy, and sexy! The entire album was recorded live during the month of April 2007 at various venues in the San Francisco bay area.

Gemini Soul captures the spirit and soul of jazz, providing a unique sound called "Cyber Jazz," continuing to redefine jazz for a new generation. This album marks as the third Gemini Soul project.

Who is Gemini Soul?

Ajamu Akinyele and Jon O’Bergh joined forces in 2005 with their release “A Cyber Jazz Holiday.” Gemini Soul was born fusing smooth jazz and funk fusion for a new generation. In 2007, Gemini Soul released their second offering ‘Liquid Soul’. In late January 2007, Gemini Soul added new member Andrew Foster on percussion.

Producer, bassist, and multi-instrumentalist Andre Marcel Ajamu Akinyele, pronounced Ah-jah-moo + Ah-kin-yay-lay, recorded as Marcel releasing five R&B/Funk albums from 1998 to 2004. He's had worldwide success with those releases, including in Europe, Japan, and Australia. As Ajamu Akinyele, he released ‘Supernova’ (2005) and the critically acclaimed ‘Black Magic The Cyber Jazz Experience’ (2006), both Jazz/Funk/Fusion albums, that established him as a true contender in the jazz industry.

Jon O'Bergh has written and produced several albums including ‘Carta’ reaching #1 nationwide on the NAV chart; ‘Meditations from a Lost World’ which reached #3; and ‘Millennial Landscapes’ which reached #2. He also co-produced songs with Marcel, now known as Ajamu Akinyele, on his 2003 release ‘Uptown : 2025 A.D.’ and for R&B recording artist Jarrod on his debut album ‘Every Part of Me’.

Andrew Foster grew up in the early seventies listening to many styles of jazz including Brazilian and traditional, which inspired him to become a percussionist. He met with producer/bassist Ajamu Akinyele one evening after a Gemini Soul show and the rest is history. Andrew recalls during the first jam session, “It was like magic playing with Ajamu and Jon …it just came naturally. I’m very fortunate to be a part of Gemini Soul and I’m ready to take it to the next level!” And the next level is where these guys were headed, proving that Gemini Soul and their sound “Cyber Jazz” were here to stay!

Gemini Soul’s ‘Liquid Soul’ and Ajamu Akinyele’s 2006 critically acclaimed double album ‘Black Magic The Cyber Jazz Experience’, gained Gemini Soul exposure on the morning television show Sacramento & Co. (ABC affiliate KXTV). Their music has been featured on the hit television shows Girlfriends, The Tony Danza Show, and Entertainment Tonight. And, they opened for the legendary Latin/Jazz percussionist Pete Escovedo in June 2007.

Gemini Soul’s sound “Cyber Jazz” is a blend of jazz/funk fusion and reflects the influences of bassists Meshell Ndegeocello and Stanley Clarke, the smooth sounds of Sade, the funk fusion of jazz legend Herbie Hancock, and the pop funk jazz fusion of Miles Davis. Their stage performances are visually exciting and entertaining, while engaging and energizing the audience in the manner of pop super star Prince and the pop funk fusion of Miles Davis. Gemini Soul also provides an overall smooth ambience reminiscent of Sade, an experience to behold.

Fun Facts:

Ajamu Akinyele has recorded under numerous names including Michael Angelo (in 1989 releasing a single titled "Brina Brown" in Europe) and Marcel as an R&B/Funk artist. His last recording under the moniker Marcel was 2004's 'Secret Weapon Volumes 1 & 2.' He was also the bandleader of the jazz/funk/fusion band Gemini Soul. He now records as Andre Akinyele.

He changed his birth name on his 32nd birthday, June 21, 2004, from ‘Andre Marcel Wilson’ to ‘Andre Marcel Ajamu Akinyele’ to reflect a more African heritage. Also, in changing his name, he wanted to depart from the Prince influenced sound to a more self-defined sound to honor his grandmother. Thus, “Cyber Jazz” and the Pearl Jazz Recording Label was born. After the release of the ‘Secret Weapon’ album, he formed the jazz/funk/fusion band Gemini Soul and began recording as Ajamu Akinyele. He would not return to the Prince influenced sound until the release of his 2012 album ‘The Potomac Syndrome’ as Andre Akinyele.

As Andre Akinyele, he has developed other ventures, including his Orange River enterprise that consists of a record label, book publishing company, and film studio. He produced albums for Jon O’Bergh. He is the bandleader, guitarist, bassist, and lead singer of the rock group Looking for Lester, working under the pseudonym Rebellion and producing the album under the name Messiah Superstar. He is also the lead singer, drum programmer, and keyboardist for the electronic synth-pop duo Lavender Lush, also working under the pseudonym Chambliss Charlie. He co-authored the book ‘Elliptical: The Music of Meshell Ndegeocello.’ Aside from music, he is also the owner of Akinyele Design Firm, which focuses on graphic design and visual arts. Also, he is the owner of Ajamu, a gaming and software development company. He authored the tech book ‘So, What’s the Big Deal About Scrum? A Methodology Handbook for Developers.’ In addition to holding an Associate's of Arts degree in Music Technology and a Bachelor's degree in Legal Studies, he also holds a Master's degree in Information Technology (IT): Software Engineering.

Multi-instrumentalist, producer, and composer André Akinyele has recorded under the names Marcel and Ajamu Akinyele, exploring multiple music genres. He is the bandleader and bassist of the jazz/funk fusion band Gemini Soul, the vocalist and guitarist for the rock band Looking for Lester, as well as the vocalist and keyboardist for the electronic synth-pop duo Lavender Lush. He is also the co-author of the book Elliptical: The Music of Meshell Ndegeocello.
